I'm a voice memo hoarder.

I’m a voice memo hoarder. Okay, that might be pushing it a little; let’s not pathologize my hobbies. I’m a voice memo collector. That sounds better.

I also happen to make music for a living, so you might think that it goes with the territory. You could assume that it’s probably normal to have pressed record on my phone a thousand two hundred and forty-one times in the past three years.

The thing about it, though, is that my voice memo app is a disorganized and chaotic compilation of sounds, most of which are titled "new recording 121". Half-written choruses, birds chirping on an early morning in Maine, full covers that I have or haven’t released, people laughing on a bus in Switzerland, an insane amount of harmonies, ten takes of the same oohs and ahhs, and a couple drafts of originals that have been sitting there, in my files, waiting to be named.

I’m hoping that this platform can serve as another creative outlet that’s not about perfecting or nitpicking before sharing. My goal isn’t to reorganize these recordings but to rediscover them and reflect on the what, where, and when of each audio. Kind of like how you would go through an old photo album and reminisce about a period of your life, except we’ll be doing it through sound.

I honestly don’t have a schedule figured out yet, so I’m most likely going to be posting whenever the inspiration comes. I hope this can be a fun new way to share more of my life and inspire some of you along the way.

I also wanted to mention that this newsletter is a way for me to communicate with my audience, just in case social media disappears tomorrow and all the other platforms die out, at least I’ll have your email :)
